Since I am still busy illustrating my second children's book of 2009, I thought I would post something different for Illustration Friday. I used to have time to pursue other creative outlets, and really enjoyed making mosaics. I still have a basement full of beautiful glass, and some day I hope to get back to mosaics. For me it was very therapeutic....I could make whatever I wanted and no one could tell me if it was right or wrong. I always thought I would sell my creations, but I gave most of them away as gifts. This mirror still hangs in my kitchen.
By the way, to read an update on my school visit for the book "The ABCs of Yoga for Kids" later this month, click here. (You can also order the book by clicking on the book icon in the upper right hand corner of this blog page.)

Congrats again on the new book! I am so excited for you.
ReplyDeleteI love the mosaic mirror. I started doing mosaics once, but there were so many new tools and materials I needed to stock up on that I never really continued. Yours are beautiful, and here's to being more creative than we know what to do with.
I do love this mirror. Your creativity as an artist shines through in everything you do! : )
ReplyDeleteThe mirror is so pretty, anyone who looks in it must see a smile.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely - very creative! It's great to see a different craft for the theme!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI love mosaics and used to make a lot. My hands suffered too much to carry on even though they're so beautiful. Good luck with the book sales! :)x
ReplyDeletekeep at this kate! I have a friend in town who has a gallery/studio called Crackpot Studios. She does mosaics on everything! I can just see your work on large vessels, tabletops, etc. The only problem with doing this (as you know) is the weight of the items makes it costly to ship.
ReplyDeleteThis mirror is beautiful!
Beautiful mosaic mirror! I love the shapes and the colors you chose. Nice to see a mosaic as a change of pace.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Kate. My wife has always wanted to start doing mosaics. She's going thru a rough time with her mom being sick...maybe a little "mosaic therapy is just what she needs. Thanks ans great work.

ReplyDeleteHi Kate! This is a lovely piece. Nice to see another of your talents. : ) Hugs to Sunshine.
ReplyDeleteYour mosaic is lovely. Great vibrant colors. I teach a couple of art classes for children and we are doing a simplified version of a mosaic to be used as a garden paving stone this very week.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it was a blast to make!! Good luck on your book visit and signing Kate!
ReplyDeleteAren't mosaics fun? Back in college I worked with an artist doing mosaics. I learned all about the craft. We did floors, walls, big pots, and all kinds of really big projects for really rich people. It was fun and sometimes painful! The closest I have gotten to a mosaic is the floor on my patio which is not really made with glass it's just painted concrete to make it look like mosaic.
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best on your book signing...
Nice switch- and lovely! Congrats on the upcoming book!
ReplyDeleteI agree, nice color mixing. Awesome piece of art. And congrats in your new book! Keep it up!
