Hahaha! This has got to be one of my favorite paintings of yours Kate! Fantastic characters and vibrant colors! Love the eyeballs spaghetti! Mine are the brown ones! Cracks me up! Love it!!
Kate: This is wonderful....I can't tell you how much I enjoy it on so many levels. The details and colors are perfect....I love the expressions and the personalities....JUST SUPERB !! Every little corner has another treat for the eye !!
well, well, well. Now we see your true colors. you are one sick puppy. This turns my entire perspective of you on it's head. I'm shocked, truely shocked!
Superb job Kate! Gotta love those eyeballs too. The background/wall has some nice texture going on and really seems to create a sense of dimension. have a great weekend!!
I absolutely love this piece! That little orange being, hanging on, is priceless and the eyelashes are super! The quality, the colors, everything is fabulous!
I always get so inspired seeing other artist's work. This is great. I love the story being told and all the fun details... like her hair clip. Can't wait to see who wins the spaghetti eating contest. What media did you do this in? Watercolor? Digital? A mixture?
Thanks everyone! I was pretty happy with how this turned out, too. I was working on it last week, and then saw that it would be so perfect for the Illustration Friday theme. It felt good to actually devote enough time to an illustration to make it turn out just how I wanted it to.
For all of you who have asked me, this was rendered in gouache. I built up layers of thin glazes on the girl's face and hands so her skin looks smooth, and for the rest of it I let the brush strokes show to add texture and interest...I had a lot of fun doing this with the background, cat's fur, and table. Oh, and for the cat's face, I did go in with a little white colored pencil to highlight his eyebrow area and cheeks, nose, lips, paws....But mostly the illustration is just glazes of gouache with intentional brushstrokes. I carefully planned out my color scheme and then just had fun with it.
Thanks everyone for your kind comments! You are so encouraging!
oh, i just fell in love with this drawing! the eyeballs (of course!), the cobweb in the hat, the little "O" mouths, and the sweet look in the kitty's eyes... so many adorable touches! wonderful stuff!
kate, THIS is fantastic!!!! i can't believe how this is you, but then there's the "patchwork squares" you, and then there's this BRILLIANT cbook artist, who wields details like jelly beans! wow...i'm totally impressed.
I love how cavalier they are about the eyeballs. The color scheme is fantastic, as are the small details. Planning it out sure worked well for you. very original.
