LOL...I have 36 sketches due on Monday. They are for a text book assignment I am working on. There are actually 3 batches of 36 illustrations (108 in all), which I will be taking from concept to finished pen & ink from now through mid January. Seems like a long time, right? No, not really. If you freelence, you know how much waiting you have to do in this business....waiting for assignments, waiting for approvals, waiting. And people will of course be celebrating the holidays and coming and going...one of my deadlines is the Wedensday of Thanksgiving week; another is January 2nd, whether anyone is in the office to give approvals or receive my work or not. But you know what? I love it. When I have projects, I am happy. Maybe sleep deprived. Maybe a little stinky. But ultimately...HAPPY. So if I miss a couple of Illustration Fridays or seem to disappear now and then, you'll know I am just finally....busy again. : ) By the way, you can see my Illustration Friday entry "scales" if you scroll down the page a little...I actually completed it last week, but it seems to fit the topic nicely. Have a good weekend, fellow bloggers! - kate : )
Great to see you are busy and happy! You deserve to be!
ReplyDeleteTake care...
This is totally awesome Kate. I love what you've done so far and can't wait to see the progress! You go gurl!
ReplyDeleteWow kate, sounds like you're going to be busy -- and happy --- for a while! Hope we get to see the in-progress work as you go along :)

ReplyDeleteGood for you! Busy is good... :o) Good luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteyou have probably already heard that quote on deadlines?
ReplyDelete"I love deadlines. I particularly like the sound they make when they go whizzing by."
Ain't the freelance life grand? We may have to work on holidays or weekends or burn the midnight oil, but we do it from home (in some cases), but most importantly, we do it because we love it! I'm happy you're busy doing what you love. Hurray!
ReplyDeletestinky=happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that makes to someone else.
Sounds like a great assignment to have. Hope you don't have to work through Thanksgiving dinner. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the work Kate! I know all about the waiting in between and the total days and nights of working on an assignment. You echo my sentiments. I love it too...when I am working.
ReplyDeleteBut in the midst of all your work, take time for Kate, enjoy your holidays too and give thanks for work that allows you to use your talents.
HI Kate....great new work you have here. thank you for the kind post/message you left on my blog. I truly appreciate it. I am also sorry for the losses you have also experienced. I hope that you are ok and well. You are right about what you said and I just wanted to thank you for your kind words. I hope all is well and it's always great to see you. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHey, Kate this is such an uplifting post. It's so nice to hear you be happy about your freelance projects. How interesting that you will have 108 drawings to complete, that's a very important number in eastern philosophy. Enjoy the process!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! I appreciate al of your supportive and encouraging comments! It means a lot that you visit my blog and wish me well! - kate : )
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Kate , can 't wait to see the result.
ReplyDeleteNice Blog! Really Great Illustrations:)
ReplyDeleteall the best to you.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing.
Congratulations. I'm happy for you. Oh, and I forgot to say about your childhood toothy-pictures: Sorry about the Hilda-dog. Our dog (her name was Sarah) loved me. Not for myself but because of my sticky and always sugary fingers. That dog chewed napkins if there was a chance to get something sweet out of them.) Your creatures seem to have something chewy about them, too, though... maybe the teeth.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Sounds like you are VERY busy! I bet you'll do just wonderful work! *HUGS*
ReplyDeleteCool photo of your desk, and great to read about your experience. I'm dying for a feast at the moment!
ReplyDeleteWell, I am happy for you! :) Good to see you getting an assignment. Hope we will see more of your stuff as it comes along.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the process, kate! i learn from here.
ReplyDeleteHee, hee....just scrolled down and saw "feast or famine" as the title of this post. This was exactly what I was going to say in my last comment....but thought perhaps I was the only one who went through these periods of extreme feast and extreme famine!
ReplyDeleteYou make me feel less alone! Thank you!
