For some reason, when I was 4 years of age, I had an awareness of animals with big snapping teeth, and I had a need to work out this issue on paper. I believe it may have been because our daschund, Hilda, did not like children and had to make her point clear to me and my tiny probing fingers using her teeth. I think the picture drawn in green crayon accurately illustrates what Hilda's demeanor was like most of the time. I also believe the creature chasing the person up a tree is a dinosaur, and the picture of the fish with big teeth is a shark. I remember being very impressed with these animals as a girl. Those are awesome! They would be really cool posters. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd you realize I drew that rat 26 years ago???
He he, I'm so glad you saved these drawings Kate--they're priceless!
ReplyDeleteThose drawings are great. The teeth are impressive in magnitude and frequency. I love looking at my 2 year olds drawings, there is something great about drawings that are non representitive; drawings for drawings sake.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the possitive comment regarding my flexable cartoon.
Oh.this are adorable Kathleen!!...even with all those teeth everywhere :o)
ReplyDeleteI find this story very interesting. Its amazing how kids can really tell whats happening through art. How nice that you have your artwork from when you were little. My mom didn't keep anything :o( I ,on the other hand ,have no space too keep my kids art anymore :o)
Even as a child, you were able to capture the sense of movement, especially in that running bird! My favorite parts: the smile on the person up the tree, the eyelashes on the shark, the interesting legs on the dinosaur, and the sun's rays. :) Thanks, these made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI hope those drawings don't come to life!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me wish all the more that I'd kept art stuff from my childhood too. I love looking through my own kids' art from when they were little.
ReplyDeleteI love the one of the dinosaur chasing the person up a tree. Your mention of Hilda brought back the childhood memory of a dachshund that lived a few doors down from us and it hated kids too. I remember we would try to sneak past their house but, if the dachshund noticed us, the race was on to the end of the street with the dachshund in fast pursuit, making threatening growling noises all the way. It was quite terrifying for us as kids but we laugh about it now. Wonderful drawings, Kate, thanks for sharing them with us. :)
These are so cute! LOL! You must have kept your mother very busy! What fun to have a piece of the little person you were!
ReplyDeleteWow - I bet your so pleased you still have these pictures!
ReplyDeleteThey're great - you were a artist before you knew it!!
I like to think that the sun keeps tickling the dog's head with its rays and that's making him irritated. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! Yes, dachshunds seem to be especially mean little critters, or at least very feisty. I agree with your view, Sparky...I like to think the sun is irritating the dog, too.
ReplyDeleteI love these.
ReplyDeleteeverything is there- that has to be.
nice designs!
Wonderful drawings! :)

ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I had some just like that. They are so so great. Have you ever thought of making something else with them ? Transfering them to a bag or something of that kind ?
ReplyDeleteHe he! I love these drawings : )
