©Kathleen RietzToday I worked on adding an interior in my work. I often struggle with what to put in a background. This is pretty pain, but it is a quick sketch. My aim was to set a story and setting. Jumping on a bed is a theme in my illustration work lately! I wonder why that is...?
Be a kid again, I guess!
ReplyDeleteI really love your sketches, very inspire.
Great expression, and pose on the girl. I really like your backgrounds. I struggle with them too though, so I sympathize.
ReplyDeleteThe only critique I have is that the curtain is directly behind the girl's body. I found that a little distracting. I'd move that window over to the left a bit. Otherwise I think it's terrific.
That is adorable! The cat in the window is a nice touch. Jumping on beds. . . I'd say it's rebellious! Kids are always told not to do it, but can't resist the fun!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I think you are just a kid at heart Kate! Love the doll and the little kitty watching the fun from outside. I bet it wants to join in.
ReplyDeleteI love your 21 day challenge drawings, the otters are wonderful (so is the Pug).
ReplyDeleteWonderful action shot! I wonder if the cat would be that aloof with her jumping like that. Of course, cats ARE aloof. :)
ReplyDeletehi Kate
ReplyDeleteI love your work. i think sea otters are the one of the best critters for childrens illustration. and what could be more fun than jumping on the bed.
cute and energetic
ReplyDeleteHI Kate...what fun this piece is...It brings back memories of jumping on my bed as a child...good times and great memories...thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteThese daily sketches are so fun to watch.

Backgrounds are what I struggle with too. I always want to draw the character...but I think it's good to keep pushing. (that is what always takes me the longest in compositions! I totally feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great drawing, and the background is wonderful!
One little kate.. jumping on the bed....
ReplyDeleteLove these jumping themes of yours!
They make me so happy.. people have to smile while seeing them, impossible not to! :o)
This is awesome!!:) I like the little teddy on her bed!:)
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun! That brings back memories. Love the otters, too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe bed jumping is an expression of innocent joy, and freedom of thought.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll go jump on my bed and try this out!
Great series Kate!
Love your work, Kate. Why is jumping on a bed a theme in your illustration work lately? Maybe because you enjoy life and fun is your middle name. ;-D
ReplyDeleteNice draws!!. great expression.
ReplyDeleteJump,i like.
congratulations :)
The last time you posted a bed jumping, I was very tempted to get in touch with my inner child and give it a try. But I was afraid I'd break a hip, heehee.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll try throw caution to the wind and give it a try tonight.
I know what you mean about backgrounds. They can be a bit daunting at times, but they do add a nice dimension. Nice job!
lol I know that feeling so well. Too bad that while the time pass by you become so responsible that you can't enjoyed like when you were younger ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful image, Kat.
