Shawna was detached from reality on weekends when she found solace in food and television.
(Sorry about the big "©" symbols on the illustration, but this illustration is one in an educational series I did for a publisher earlier this year and is copyright protected.)
I am working on illustrating 2 picture books now (yay!) and writing my 3rd article for the SCBWI-IL e-newsletter, so I haven't been blogging much nor visiting my favorite blogs like I would like to be able to do. I miss everyone! I promise I will post updates and artwork from the books as I am able.
Oh, this one hits home! I can totally relate. Except, it's Project Runway reruns and taro chips! This is a very powerful piece that makes me think.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks Joan. I think we have all been there in one way or another.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great drawing for the theme. That was me as a teenager but I was skinny. Now I rarely eat chips and I'm a little plump. What's with that?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all of your work.
oh wow this is a wonderful illustration Kate.....congrats on the wonderful projects ahead...you know I will be first in line to pick up your books...
ReplyDeletenice job! very delicate handling of a somewhat hard subject to illustrate!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous illo. The look of detachment on her face is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 2 picbooks! I've missed you blogging but I'm really happy for your success.
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration! Very difficult subject and you pulled it off beautifully.
Wonderful drawing!
ReplyDeleteOh, I really like how well this fits with the theme. I really applaud you for being able to illustrate a subject that goes beyond detachment. So well done!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your books, please let us know when they will be published.
Thanks for your comment on Monday Artday. You made a lot of sense!!
oooooh what a beautifully done black and white piece!!!
ReplyDeletecongrats on the 2 picture books. Woohoo!!
How true! TV and food can take away the present, makes it easy for the mind to detach from reality. That’s a powerful point in a wonderful drawing.
ReplyDelete*You must be very busy with all the illustration projects you’re in. I gather from the “yay” exclamation that you’re also enjoying your wok. May you continue to have this type of happy busy with some time to blog and visit your favorite blogs.
Nice image for the theme. Good to hear you have some more books on the way! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteThat's Super work Kate! Your human characters have a lot of soul!
ReplyDeleteexcellent drawing, you have skills with the pencil that is for sure.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Nice shading Kate. You were diligent in your pencil work on this drawing. Holy cow. What were the physical dimensions of this piece?
ReplyDeleteI also like how one of her pony tails is closer to the top of her head. Only a kid would think to do that. 8 )
Wonderful piece, soulful face :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're getting a lot of work. The world needs to see your art!
Your pencil work is always so beautiful, but this one is especially fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love this image Kate, it's really moving and touching. Congratulations on all your jobs, I hope the books are coming on well. Take care, Lxx
