I couldn't help myself. I haven't sketched anything lately that isn't related to the books I am illustrating. I sort of miss doing a sketch a day, like I did last winter. Last night I was thinking about babies and how soft and sweet their little bedclothes and toys are. And so I started wanting to do some doodles of plush baby toys and clothes. I think there is a part of my brain that also misses being a product developer/designer, which I have done for nearly 20 years. So I thought I would grab a moment and allow myself to doodle a little plush piggy. Just wanted to share.
Aww! I want to hug this one! So cute!
ReplyDeleteI also worked on a piggy this week...not done with him though. May post it later this week.
This is one of my favorite drawings I've seen you make so far! It is adorable.
ReplyDeleteMay I ask, are you drawing on paper with pencil? I love the soft quality you get, can you tell us what type of paper/pencil you use? Or what digital process you use to make these little sketches?
oh my goodness...how sweet!!! I just worked on some piggies today...
ReplyDeleteyour stuffed creature is so so cute and I too loved that 21 day creative exercise...it was so fun to just do whatever your heart desired....
Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI need to do more of this myself, just quick sketches to stay loose and in practice.
Oooooo! So cute! I want to squeeeeeze him!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteCarol H.~ I use a #2 graphite pencil in a sketchbook. This sketchbook has a softer "rag" paper with a little more tooth to it than I like, but now I am used to it because I know what to expect. Because the plush pig toy felt a bit nostalgic to me, I used Photoshop to give the drawing a slight sepia tone. To get the soft shading, I just use my fingertip or a smudge stick to (in the case my fingertip) smear the pencil a bit. This is especially nice on a "soft" toy like the plush pig, or on a child's face.
Dang! You ARE really good! You continue to surprise me with your talent!!! This pig is so adorable! I want one!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable piggy!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, beautiful picture of you and your sunshine girl, made me curious also of the little things in the background.....
all the best to your new book!
This is so sweet, Kate! Your detail is just amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI love this little piggy!! Adorable. Kate, I just love the inspiration you give me, I haven't picked up a pencil to draw anything for days, now I want to go draw a cute piggy too. :)
