A charming picture! I've been thinking about painting Kingfishers lately, although I must admit it's just an excuse to play with those beautiful blues!
When I saw the sketch the wall looked a bit flat to me, and I've figured it out, the stones furthest away in perspective are the largest which makes the eye think they are closer.
I don't think it matters though, just thought I'd mention it.
Oh Kate this is just lovely! I love your colour choices and how you've done the highlights on the stones and her hair. Your work is really inspiring to me.
Thank you so much for your helpful and inspiring words that you posted on my blog. I really appreciate it. Please keep checking in with me and letting me know what you think works and what doesn't...the flat simple style takes me just as long as a dimensional style with all the details I add to the backgrounds and all (flat style) even though it probably doesn't look like I spend much time on it...(and not to mention I'm just a little bit of a perfectionist...not in life, just art!) :) Thanks again!
Yup, this piece is definitely one of my favorites and I am so glad you put it to color cuz you KNOW we were all waiting! LOL. I do love the colors! This is a very, very beautiful piece. I am loving your style too!
Beautiful, Kate.

How sweet. Your illustrations are always so lovely and charming.
ReplyDeleteHow cool Kate! Love the colors of the kingfisher especially!
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick, I'd choose... hmm.
ReplyDeleteColor does change a lot and I like both but I'm a big fan of your original pencil sketch.
As an artist I get all caught up in pencil lines, drawing them in my head while I look at it. Can't help it. That's probably why I like it so much!
