Random Fact #8: I have a Christmas Eve Birthday

Today is my 40th birthday. You may remember Random Fact #1 from back in August "I Am A Twin". So it is my twin brother's birthday also. For those of you 20-Somethings out there who think that 40 is old, it's not. I still love hip-hop and dance music and I shop in the Junior's dept for most of my clothes and stay up until all hours of the night making my art. I love the stupid "reality" shows on MTV and I text my friends when I don't feel like calling. But I also have to tell you that my 30's were way better than my 20's, and I am looking forward to what my 40's will bring. 40 years has made me wiser, more empathetic, standing firm in who I am and what I believe, but more accepting of others and their differences. My world view is different than it was even 5 years ago, now that I think about it, and it's been shaped by my years on this earth. Am I where I thought I would be at 40? No. But I am my mother's daughter, and I know she would be proud of me if she were here. This is an amazing time we live in. We have so many choices to shape our lives and live our dreams right at our virtual fingertips. We can touch others' lives and share our thoughts and our art right here at our computers. I am grateful for every one of you who has ever stopped by my blog and commented on my posts; I feel like I "know" so many of you and you brighten my days, every day! Thanks for an awesome year of art blogging and I cannot wait to share the next one with you all! Cheers! (Red scarf courtesy of my friend Joan in Hawaii, who began knitting it months ago and sent it this week as a birthday gift, along with some other goodies. Thanks Joan!)

  17. Happy Belated wishes...I hope both your birthday and Christmas were wonderful....from someone deep into the 40's, they are a great decade, but I guess that's partly because I still "feel" as if I am in my 20's (although I can't sit on the floor like I used to...getting up is too hard :) Enjoy the decade that has both wisdom and youth !!!

  19. It's amazing how a positive attitude can keep a person young, I'm just a little into my thirties but I can definitely tell they are going to be brighter than my twenties, it's nice to have a little age and perspective.

    Happy Birthday Kate!

Oh, what is this reality TV you mention? I must be getting old... ;)

  20. Happy Belated Birthday Kate!

Some one once told me, "Life begins at 40". And in some ways that rings true to me. After a sometimes terrifying, sometimes glorious, always interesting journey through the 20's and 30's I found I was more of who I wanted to be in my 40's than ever before.

With your ageless beauty, positive attitude and talent, your 40's are no doubt going to be a grand adventure.

  21. Happy belated birthday. You have such an incredible attitude and youthfulness....Inspiring to us all!

  22. Thanks everyone! You are so encouraging. As a good friend of my mother's, Rayna, says "Enjoy life; this is not a dress rehearsal!"

  23. You are still a kid, Kate! Happy birthday and Happy New year. One of our daughters is a New Years Day baby and our Niece is a Christmas Day baby. My brother is a Thanksgiving Day kid every so often and our other daughter has her birthday on Easter every so often.

I just bet you and your brother enjoy the holidays even more knowing you are born into such a joyous season!

  24. Happy belated birthday! I love all that you said about life and moving forward in the years. I passed the 40 mark a few years ago, and I must admit, it took me a few to adjust - but I find it is a turning point, where you realize how precious life is and those around you.

It's a joy getting to know you.

    Take care!

  27. Happy Belated Birthday wishes from me too, Kate! May your forties be the best yet. I am 48 and I still do, and agree, with everything you wrote in your post.

I had my fifth child when I was 39 and he turned 9 on December 23rd so the celebrations have been in full swing here too. First, his birthday, then came Christmas followed by Boxing Day (26th) and now, New Year's Eve is almost here! The New Year's Eve party will be at my place and the theme is to wear something 'fluro'. You're invited. ;)

  30. Happy Birthday dear! I loved reading this and even though I'm 8 years older than you, almost 9 I feel the same way. I shop in the children's 12-14 section and I love to stay up and make art, I love those stupid reality shows on MTV especially "The Hills"( please don't tell anybody) I would secretly have loved to work at Teen Vogue! I love this planet but I'm worried... Life is good and I know your mom is super-duper proud of you. You are beautiful inside and out! Happy New Year Kate!
