It's my second published article for "The Prairie Wind", the SCBWI-IL online newsletter. Here I write about how I found my style of children's book illustration. Check it out and leave me a comment!
Kate, what a great article. This is something I struggle with now as my freelance illustrating is starting to take off. I appreciate your honesty and have really enjoyed looking through your blog. thank you for the inspiration!
Great essay, Kate! I like your three points about finding a style you enjoy, feels like you, and can be executed quickly. I've gone through the same thing as an artist who has changed styles repeatedly. My latest cartoon style has been an intentional evolution, and yes, I agree that there is great value in just drawing every day. I had the reverse problem though, instead of spending too much time on finished work, I never finished anything, haha.
Congrats again on writing such a great article. (ps- I'll have a new comic up Monday for yah)
Hi Kate...that is an awesome article....I love reading about you and how you got to where you are today....I need to also look at my own style and get a better definition for it...
you are such an inspiration and great help...I really loved your three questions and will be asking myslef these same questions...
Kate, I have missed seeing your beautiful art! I dropped my laptop on the hardwood floor and it was a total loss (argh!), so i've been out of the loop fpr a while i got a new computer. So I am on your blog again for the first time in about a month! I love so many of your new pieces! Do stop by my side of the 'hood on your next walk! Miss you!
What a terrific article, Kate. I really enjoyed reading it and think the way you evaluated your own methods will help others that are trying to develop a unique style for themselves as well.
Thanks for sharing this article! I think finding a 'style' is a problem we all go through (I know I have - and am!) it was nice to read your honest thoughts and process. Very inspiring!
